Be the Fairies

The tiniest fairy whizzed by my ear. I had just entered the Diamond, ready to explore. The fairy was miniscule compared to me, almost invisible to my human eyes, though its energy was large and powerful.

Like Tinkerbell, it lifted a tiny wand in one hand and pointed it at me, a small burst of light sprinkled out. “There,” she said with a gratifying nod, her head moving up and down. She had shrunk me to her size. “Perfect for us to explore. Are you ready?” Her voice was high-pitched and cheerful.

I slowly nodded, a small grin on my face, but I was preoccupied with admiring my fairy self, floating high above the ground, wings vibrating on my back.

“Let’s go!” she waved for me to follow, then turned and flew away.

Instinctually, I followed. I was flying! My navigation abilities were amazing. I could sense wind speeds, objects, distances, and movements. “Wow,” I thought to myself. I had a 360-degree understanding of the world, trajectories, velocity, particles, and more.

I almost forgot to follow the fairy, distracted by the new sensations and skills. The fairy led me through tree branches and flower gardens, weaving in and out of bushes and tall blades of grass.

She stopped, hovered mid-air, and turned to speak to me. “We try to,” she paused, “fly,” another pause, as she thought about what to say next, “incognito, blend in, you know? We don’t need to draw attention to ourselves. There are plenty of insects that create nuisances, and you know what humans think about nuisances?”

“So we’re on Earth?” I thought.

“Come, we’re almost there,” she waved at me to follow. She dodged a lawn sprinkler by zigging high and to the right and then used a flower petal as a trampoline, just for fun.

She dove for an opening at the base of a tree, nestled between two large roots. As we neared, I spotted a golden, glittering glow inside the tree. We flew into the golden light and were immediately teleported through space and time.

Tumbling through the universe, the fairy slowly grew in size and began transforming into something else.

Thunk! Two feet landed solidly on the ground. Squatting in front of me, God slowly stood up as I floated down and landed silently like a feather drifting from the heavens to the ground.

“The fairy?”
God smirked. “You had fun?”
“I did.”
“We have more places to explore,” God said, but his words were overshadowed by rising feelings of worry, fear, hatred, and discontentment overwhelming my senses.
“Where is this coming from?”
“Earth, love.”

My chest tightened, my body filled with anxiety, and my brain clouded with fear. I heard, “I choose to rise above and use my power for good.”

“Be the fairies,” God whispered.

A large group of tiny, powerful fairies revealed themselves, spreading their magic around the world, small moments at a time, flying incognito through neighborhoods, non-profits, businesses, schools, and more.

“Be the fairies,” God spoke to my soul.
